— Shawn Teigen to Take Over from Peter Reichard —

On November 15, 2022, the Chair of the Utah Foundation Board of Trustees, Art Turner, announced that Shawn Teigen has been appointed as the president of the organization.

Teigen brings a wealth of experience to the position, from entrepreneur to Peace Corps volunteer to researcher at the Utah Foundation. He’s been focusing on public policy for the past 15 years, including as the Utah Foundation’s Research Director since 2014 and Vice President since 2017. Teigen also teaches a Master of Public Policy course at the University of Utah for the next generation of policy researchers.

Outgoing President Peter Reichard said Teigen will provide “energetic, enthusiastic leadership” to drive the Utah Foundation forward. “Shawn appreciates what makes Utah special, and he’s passionate about finding ways to keep improving,” Reichard said. “It has been an honor to work with Shawn, Christopher Collard and the board to strengthen the Utah Foundation. I’m confident they will maintain the rapid upward trajectory.”

Reichard will pass the baton to Teigen on November 16 at the organization’s Annual Luncheon taking place at Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek. The luncheon will honor Katharine Garff and her late husband Robert Garff and features keynote speaker Michael B. Horn.

Peter Reichard, who has served as president since 2017, is leaving to take a position as vice president of a national nonprofit organization. During his tenure as president of the Utah Foundation, the organization’s output reached unprecedented levels. The Utah Foundation has risen to prominence as one of the very top organizations of its type in the nation, as measured by the number of awards from the Governmental Research Association. He leaves the organization in better financial shape than at any point in memory.

“Peter has worked with the Utah Foundation board and staff to build a strength into the organization that it would not have otherwise seen,” Teigen said. “I am deeply honored by the opportunity to continue advancing the Utah Foundation’s critical work.”
